Brussels, July 24th – The European Commission proposed today to pay EUR 6,000 to member states of the European Union (EU) for each migrant saved on the Mediterranean Sea that they accept.
The commission said it wants to offer “full financial support” to any member applying to set up migrant control centers, which will determine which migrants have the right to international protection.
EU leaders decided at a summit last month to ease the pressure of the migrant crisis after they accepted Italy’s request for assistance with migrants.
EU countries will begin talks on the proposal on Thursday.
